Support For You

If you are a parent with at least one child under the age of five then Home-Start Havant may be able to help you.

We will try to support any family that needs us, as long as they have at least one child under five. Support is usually provided via Volunteers who visit in your own home for 2 hours a week to offer support, friendship and practical assistance.

Support groups are also available where you can meet and chat with other parents.

I’ve been referred to Home-Start by my Health Visitor, what happens now?

We will contact you and arrange for one of the Co-ordinators to come and see you to find out what you would like from Home-Start Havant.

I’m not sure how I feel about having a stranger to visit me and the children at home – what are the volunteers like?

All volunteers have parenting experience – they know what it’s like to have 24 hour responsibility for young children, and we do everything we can to find the right volunteer for you – someone you will get on with. They are all interviewed, trained and undergo an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau Check.

I’m not sure whether I really need any help – I occasionally have an off day when I just seem to shout all the time, but most of the time I can get by.

If you’re not sure, just contact us and we can talk it through.

What will the volunteer actually do?

The volunteer will visit each week for 2 hours and offer befriending, support and practical help. They will do whatever you would find most helpful, e.g. help with shopping, appointments, trips to the park, library, parent and toddler groups – or they could stay at home and spend time with you and the children – like a good friend would.

What if I don’t like my volunteer?

If you are unhappy about anything just contact one of the Co-ordinators who will listen to concerns and try to resolve the situation.

What if I change my mind?

That’s fine – just Contact us – it’s not a problem.

What do I do next?

If you would like support then you can contact Home-Start Havant directly and a co-ordinator will visit you at home to discuss your needs and decide whether Home-Start Havant is appropriate for you.

You can also contact your health visitor, social worker or any other agency you are involved with and ask them to make the referral for you.
